National Tree Day 2017 - Be inspired by nature

Mount Barker District Council and Planet Ark are inviting residents to be inspired by nature and make a positive difference by attending National Tree Day.

Council will be holding a number of tree planting days in Mount Barker, Nairne, Meadows, Macclesfield, Echunga, Littlehampton and Hahndorf with 11 local schools participating throughout the district. Major community tree planting will occur in Keith Stephenson Park and nearby reserves, including Ray Orr Drive.

A community planting day will be held on Sunday 30 July (10am-2pm) at Keith Stephenson Park, Mount Barker. School planting days will occur in the week prior to, and the week following national tree day, with schools committed to participating.

This year’s National Tree Day theme “Be Inspired: It’s in Our Nature” highlights how nature ignites our inspiration, creativity and purpose, as well as offering significant health and wellbeing benefits. There’s no better way to embrace these benefits than by taking part in Planet Ark’s iconic environmental campaign, now in its 22nd year.

Last year nearly 310,000 people took part in National Tree Day at over 3,500 sites across the country, planting more than 1.1 million native trees, shrubs and edibles and helping to green urban areas.
