Council provides a district wide kerbside collection service comprising of:

District Wide: 140L weekly general waste collection & 240L fortnightly recycling collection

Townships Only: 240L fortnightly green waste collection (green lid bin)

Council provides the General Waste & Recycle bins to residents as part of the annual refuse charge.

Residents designated as ‘township’ are required to provide a suitable 240L green lidded bin for green waste collection. Please contact Council if you are unsure if your property is designated as ‘township’.

Commercial & Industrial properties are excluded from green waste collection. Please view the attached information sheet for further information.

New Contractor has Commenced

Solo Resource Recovery

As of 1st October 2015 a new collection contractor will be collecting your Waste, Recycling and Green Organics bins. You should not experience any change in your collection service, however the time of day that your bin is collected may differ from the usual.

The Rural City of Murray Bridge and the Mount Barker District Council will now use the same kerbside collection service contractor to collect all bins across the Region.

Please ensure your bin is out by 6am on the day of collection and if it is not collected by the end of the day please call Solo to report your bin being missed.

As of 1st October 2015 please call Solo Resource Recovery for all your waste, recycling and Green Organics kerbside service enquiries.

New waste collection calendar for 2016/2017 is vailable.  The format of the calendars have changed, however there have been no changes to the collection schedule.

What items can be placed into each of the bins?

As a general guide:

General Waste (140L blue lid bin): All other items that cannot be composted or recyced including, crockery, nappies and non-hazardous materials. 

General Recycling (240L yellow lid bin): Glass bottles and jars, aluminium & steel cans, plastic containers and bottles, paper & cardboard.

Green Waste (240L green lid bin): Organic garden materials including lawn clippings, prunings, leaves and small branch cuttings.

Request the kerbside service to a new property, or to request an additional service to an existing property. As per Council’s Kerbside Waste Procedures, applications will be approved where the property has full development approval for a dwelling and bins can be stored securely at the site. From the date of application receipt, a minimum of 10 business days are required to process an application. Bins are only delivered on a Thursday.

The refuse charge will cost rural ratepayers $158 per annum and township ratepayers $187 per annum. This charge is itemised on your rates notice.
Bins to be placed at kerb no later than 6am on day of collection. To ensure collection, Council encourages residents to place bins out the night before.

Bins may not be collected for the following reasons:

  • Excessively contaminated with materials that should not be placed into that bin; and
  • Excessive weight: bins that exceed 50 kg in weight will not be collected.

Windmill Hill Transfer Station

Windmill Hill Transfer Station is located on Nixon Road, Totness and operates Tuesday - Sunday. Closed on Mondays, catastrophic fire ban days and extreme weather events.  For more information click here.
