Transport Management Master Plan

Build Roads

The Mount Barker District Council has prepared a district wide Transport Master Plan. A key objective of the plan is to develop a safe, integrated and efficient transport network that takes into account the current and future needs of the region. Freight movement, public transport, pedestrian and cyclist activity, car parking, traffic growth and connectivity between townships and key public facilities will all be examined as part of the plan development. InfraPlan were engaged to assist in developing the plan with support by Tonkin Engineering and Kath Moore and Associates.

Draft Transport Master Plan

The Draft Transport Master Plan has Five Goal Areas being:-

Future Growth: A robust transport network to cater for regional growth, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion within townships.

Public Transport: Improved public transport accessibility within, through and from the Council area.

Walking and Cycling: Increased levels of walking and cycling in the Council area.

Safety: Improved safety of the road network, including the management of freight conflicts.

Travel Demand Management: Implementation of travel demand management to reduce car use, environmental and social impacts.

The Draft Transport Master Plan recommends a staged approach to the provision of transport projects with an immediate action plan, a short to medium term action plan and a medium to long term action plan.

The development of the Draft Transport Master Plan has involved an initial community consultation process which provided opportunities for businesses and community groups across the District to have input towards the development of the Plan. Two reports from workshops and community consultation have previously been prepared and presented to Council and are available here:
