Housing Strategy

The Mount Barker Council has prepared a Housing Strategy in response to a sustained high rate of population growth and a need to better understand the current and projected housing conditions across the District as this growth continues.

The principal objectives of this Housing Strategy are to:

  • Better understand the existing housing conditions across the District by benchmarking key housing performance indicators e.g. affordability, environmental sustainability and diversity in housing stock;
  • Be informed about the kinds of new housing being provided throughout the District, in particular the growth areas, to understand how this housing compares with other growth areas across metropolitan Adelaide;
  • Better understand the availability of social housing and housing support services provided across the District;
  • Where required, formulate strategies aimed at improving housing conditions and housing support services throughout the District.

Council adopted the Mount Barker District Housing Strategy in March 2020 (minutes / agenda) and work has commenced to deliver on the strategies contained with the document.
