Ascent Lake Maintenance

Council has appointed a contractor to undertake maintenance at the Ascent Lake.

The Ascent Lake has two fundamental functions: one as an ornamental/habitat for local species, the second is to remove silt from runoff into downstream waterways through a sedimentation pond upstream of the lake itself. Periodically the silt and associated reed growth in the Sedimentation Pond need to be removed back to original design levels to ensure it can continue to function as intended. Similarly this is also necessary in the outlet channel from the lake to the downstream creek.

The contractor will undertake site survey in the week beginning 17 March 2014 with civil works to commence in the week beginning 24 March 2014.  It is expected that works will be completed within 4 weeks from commencement subject to weather and any unforseen issues.

Maintenance will include removal of reeds and silt from the sedimentation pond, weir and spillway channel, inlet and outlet headwall upgrade. The map below shows these locations.  Once these works are completed and stabilised there will be improved water quality and reduced risk and frequency of flooding to the adjacent playground.
