Byethorne Park Redevelopment
The redevelopments of Byethorne Park was officially opened on 11 January 2020.
June 2019 Update
Nature Play: There is a delay in the delivery of the major play equipment piece which means (subject to the supplier delivering to the expected ETA and weather being kind) we hope to be finished the nature play area by early August.
Kick around: To deliver the project on budget we have opted to seed the kick around space rather than buy turf. We will need to keep this area closed off until it is deemed strong enough for use. This may take until November.
Butterfly garden: we will keep you posted closer to the date when we can hand this over for the community plant out.
Community Launch Event: Council will work with community and support an event to launch the new park. Date to be advised.
In August 2017 the State Government announced $40m for a Fund My Neighbourhood Program which was one of the world’s biggest participatory budgeting exercises and gave South Australian’s the power to nominate and vote for projects to improve their streets, suburbs and towns.
The Nairne community identified two eligible projects for the Fund My Neighbourhood program and Council agreed to project sponsor and deliver the projects if successful.
Through the Fund My Neighbourhood online community voting system, Byethorne Park at Nairne was awarded two grants in November 2017 to design and deliver a:
a. Nature Play area - $100,000
b. Kick around area on Block 20 and Unmade Packard Street East adjacent to Byethorne Park - $150,000
To ensure the project met the needs of the Nairne community, a Fund My Neighbourhood - Byethorne Park Working Group was established as the key mechanism for communication and consultation with community representatives.
A number of online and onsite consultation sessions with community were held and key priorities were established, including the addition of Block 20 and unmade Packard Street East into Byethorne Park.
At the final community consultation day on 11 October 2018 feedback was finalised and provided to Council’s landscape designer.
It is now expected that:
a. Detailed plans and costing will be completed by mid-November 2018,
b. Advertisements seeking expressions of interest will be publicised by mid-December 2018,
c. A contract for delivery of project will be issued early 2019, and
d. The project will be completed by 30 June 2019.
