8 July 2015
The road remains under traffic management at 40km/h until installation of the safety barrier, expected by end of August, is complete.
27 May 2015
Construction of additional drainage has resolved the growndwater issue, allowing the road surface to be prepared and asphalt applied. Linemarking has also been complete, allowing the road to be reopened to traffic.
14 May 2015
Ongoing ground water is creating difficulties in preparation of the road surface for final asphalt on Hurling Drive. The contractor has advised that the prepared road surface remains too wet to proceed with asphalt. The road will be reopened to traffic over the next several weeks while remedial drainage works are undertaken. A further road closure will be advised when asphalting is rescheduled.
1 May 2015
Hurling Drive re-opening has been delayed due to road pavement failure that is not suitable for final surfacing that was proposed for the 5th May.
The closure will remain in place until further notification. The road pavement needs to be reconstructed and the sealing contractor will need to be rescheduled. Once these details are known updated information will be provided.
29 April 2015
The contractor has advised that the prepared road surface remains too wet to proceed with asphalt which has been rescheduled for Tuesday 5 May, again weather dependent. The road will remain closed until the asphalt work is complete.
22 April 2015
The greater than expected rain last Thursday and Friday combined with road pavement materials delivered being ‘too wet’ has created delays in getting the road pavement ready for sealing. Greater time is now required for the material to dry out before further work can be undertaken.
This will result in a delay for installation of the asphalt pavement, now scheduled for the week of 27 April. However, as further wet weather is expected, this may be delayed maybe extended further.
We advise that Hurling Drive, from Flaxley Road to Carr Street, will be closed from Saturday 11th April for a period of up to two weeks, subject to weather conditions.
The closure is required to undertake reconstruction of the road pavement in Hurling Drive and to ensure this can be done safely for workers and the public.
Detours and traffic control will be in place during this period and vehicles will need to find alternate routes via Albert Road and Wellington Road to Flaxley Road.
Developer CIC is about to commence upgrade of the Flaxley Road / Hurling Drive intersection.
The site project management will be undertaken by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.
Preliminary works including the removal of trees are expected to commence the week of 23 February 2015 with the main civil construction works commencing mid-March.
Advance warning signs will be installed. All endeavours will be made to ensure a minimum of inconvenience, but alternative routes should be planned while work is underway.
