Gawler Street Parklet Relocation
Council has been exploring ways of enhancing Gawler Street, Mount Barker as a place to be and to do business.
Consultation with land and business owners, together with the broader community resulted in a Master Plan being developed for the iconic Street.
Information about the Master Plan can be viewed via this link: http://www.mountbarker.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1116
The Master Plan includes installation of a Parklet. A Parklet is where for short periods, several car parks are transformed into a park for people. They are a great way to create more people space in a streetscape, create interest and more out door seating space.
The Parklet is a temporary installation and is able to be relocated.
In 2015, expressions of interest were called from traders in Gawler Street who wished to link with the Parklet for 12 months. The Parklet was installed at 1/24 Gawler Street on Monday 30 November 2015.
Following the initial 12 months period, other businesses within Gawler Street were invited to submit an Expression of Interest for the forthcoming 12 months.
On Wednesday 30 November 2016, the Parklet will be relocated from 1/24 Gawler Street to 10 Gawler Street. The work will take place commencing from 6pm and is expected to be complete by 6am Thursday 1 December. Gawler Street and the intersection with Walker Street will remain open to all road users during this time under traffic management.
