Hahndorf Academy Toilet and Kitchen Refurbishment
The Academy is an important Council owned, State Heritage listed building highly visible to Main Street Hahndorf visitors and containing a national and internationally recognized Arts and Cultural facility operated by the Hahndorf Academy Foundation. It will soon contain the relocated Visitor Information Centre.
As with any older (first commenced 1855) building, there is a need for repairs and maintenance and Council has undertaken and continues to undertake necessary building works. To further enhance the ambiance and usability of this important landmark building, funds were provided by Council ($250,000) in the 2010/11 financial year together with a $65,000 grant from the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government under Round 2 of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, to facilitate the construction of new male, female and disabled toilet facilities to both the ground and first floor of the Academy together with a complete refurbishment and fit out of the kitchen.
Work is now complete and the fully refurbished kitchen boasts a large commercial fridge, oven, dishwasher, microwaves and considerable additional cupboard space and a stainless steel preparation bench. Staff and the many local, interstate and international visitors to the Academy will now enjoy a proper level of toilet facilities whilst the new kitchen will enable the Academy to better cater for the many arts and community events and functions it holds throughout the year.
