Hahndorf School House

The Conservation works of the Old Lutheran School House, Hahndorf, commenced in February 2023 and were completed late April.

The project was funded by Council, with the assistance of a grant from the SA Heritage Conservation Grants Program 2022/23.

The scope of this project included partial structural remediation of the existing stone walls, along with the repointing of the western and southern elevations with traditional lime mortar.  These works were undertaken by a local heritage masonry contractor, working closely with Council and State Heritage

Works included:

  1. Building Facades: Removal of any non-original or cementitious plaster, and re-pointing of stonework with correct materials and techniques, so as to ensure structural integrity of the building.
  2. Roof timbers and sheet repairs and and verandah flashing: any structural issues and potential for leaks repaired.
  3. Doors and windows: repairs as necessary so as to eliminate moisture intrusion into the building.
  4. Access: access amended so no public access and building is not used for storage.
  5. Electrical: Make safe any electrical issues and remove non-heritage external installations.
