Council is pleased to advise that only one gumtree will need to be removed out the front of 87 Old Princes Highway. Council and SA Power Networks were able to save the Corymbia Ficifolia (WA Flowering gumtree) through a re-design process. The secondary tree (closest to the stobie pole) is marked for removal Monday or Tuesday the week comencing 30 March 2020.

The power Line Undergrounding project proceeds the street scaping project that will see new trees planted to offset the loss of this tree and improve the aesthetics of the main street.

In order to facilitate the undergrounding of power lines in the main street of Littlehampton two gum trees at the front of 87 Princes Highway need to be removed. The removal of these trees will be off-set by the street scape works to follow after the undergrounding project. They are scheduled to be removed by the end of March.

The Mount Barker District Council has been successful in securing funding for the undergrounding of the overhead power lines along a section of Old Princes Highway, Littlehampton (see map below). The total cost of this project is $2.27 million and is funded two-thirds by SA Power Networks and one-third by Council. The project is expected to deliver a less congested, safer environment that enhances and beautifies the main road in Littlehampton around heritage listed buildings and the business precinct.

SA Power Networks are managing the undergrounding of powerlines and have indicated that the project will commence in February 2020 and be completed by late October 2020.

The project will involve trenching of underground conduits, installation of new overhead lighting both sides of the street, removal of redundant Stobie Poles and installation of pad mounted transformers.

During the project there may be some traffic delays and temporary detours required. Should your property access be directly impacted, you will be given prior notice to ensure an alternative arrangement can be made. Please be advised that the contractors will be undertaking works predominantly during the day time however some out of hours work, including night work, may be undertaken. Council and SA Power Networks will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.

Once the undergrounding project is complete, Council are considering undertaking a further upgrade to the streetscape on Old Princes Highway over coming years subject to available funds.
