The work may necessitate closing sections of the road for a period of time on the day that construction is undertaken for the safety of road users and the construction workers. During this time there may be limited access to driveway entrances and vehicles should not be left parked on the road.
All endeavours will be made to ensure a minimum of inconvenience, but alternative routes should be planned while these works are under way. Road users are requested to adhere to any detours that will be in place and plan alternate routes to avoid delay in reaching their destination.
The Mount Barker District Council has been successful in securing funding for the undergrounding of the overhead power lines along a section of Mawson Road and Battunga Road Meadows, as shown on the map overleaf. This is the third stage of undergrounding powerlines along Mawson Road. The total cost of this project is $1.9 million and is funded two-thirds by SA Power Networks and one-third by Mount Barker District Council. The project is expected to deliver a less congested, safer environment that enhances and beautifies these main roads in Meadows.
SA Power Networks are managing the undergrounding of powerlines and have indicated that the project will commence in September 2018 and be completed by the end of 2018.
The project will involve the removal of stobie poles and potentially some trees, followed by the installation of new pad mount transformers, lighting columns, conduits and replacement trees.
During the project there may be some traffic delays and temporary detours required. Should your property access be directly impacted, you will be given prior notice to ensure an alternative arrangement can be made. Please be advised that the contractors will be undertaking works predominantly during the day time however some out of hours work, including night work, may be undertaken. Council and SA Power Networks will endeavor to keep disruption to a minimum.
Once the undergrounding project is complete, Council will undertake a further upgrade to the streetscape on Mawson Road and Battunga Road over coming years subject to available funds. Design is currently in progress and some consultation with stakeholders has already commenced.
