Nairne Main Street Undergrounding Powerlines

December 2014

All work to underground the power, install new light poles and remove all overhead powerlines and stobie poles on this section of Main Street is now complete.

November 2014

All major civil works to underground the power lines has now been completed.

Next steps are for SA Power Networks to connect each individual property to the new power supply.  This will be completed progressively over the coming week.  Property owners should expect to be without power for a short period while their prorerty is connected.  SA Power Networks have contacted occupiers to advise of this activity.

The changeover from overhead power to underground power is scheduled for 5 December subject to suitable weather conditions.  SA Power Networks have advised that while the changeover is undertaken an alternative source of power will be made available to minimise impact on local businesses.

Following the successful transfer to the underground power supply, work to remove the overhead power lines and poles will commence.  New street lighting will also be installed and commissioned. Due to the plant and equipment required for this and the safety of the contractors, on street parking will be restricted and motorists should expect traffic delays.

July 2014

SA Power Networks have advised their contractor is now indicated to start week commencing 11 August.

June 2014

SA Power Networks has indicated this project is expected to commence in July 2014.  Work will commence at Church Street and progress in an easterly direction towards 91 Main Street.

There may be some traffic delays and temporary detours required throughout this project.   Should properties be adjacent to the work zone, residents will be given prior notice before work is undertaken that may temporarily disrupt access to the property.

The contractors will start and finish at various times each day depending on the stage of work to be undertaken.  There is a possibility that some out of hours work, including night work may need to be utilised depending on site issues.

SA Power Networks forecast the project to complete undergrounding the powerlines and installing new light poles will be concluded by the end of the year, dependant on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.  Council will then undertake streetscaping works dependent on budget allocation in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 Annual Business Plans.

This $1.8m project is approved by the Power Line Environment Committee (PLEC) and funded by SA Power Networks and the District Council of Mount Barker.
