Park n Ride Dumas Street Mount Barker

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is developing a new Park 'n' Ride facility at Dumas Street, Mount Barker, on the vacant Crown land immediately west of the TAFE.

Line Marking and Parking

19 February 2014 - Line marking within the area of the pedestrian crossing has been completed and forms part of the no-parking zone in the approach to the crossing.  Bunting is in place to ensure this space remains clear until the flashing lights are commissioned.

Contractors have indicated that the lights may be operational by Monday 24 February.

Traffic Lights to be Activated

17 February 2014 - DPTI have advised that the traffic lights at the intersection of Adelaide/Dumas/Morphett will be turned off on Wednesday 19 February to enable activation of the new lights which include the right turn lights from Adelaide Road into Dumas Street.

The lights will be off for approximately 4 hours and the intersection will be controlled under manned traffic direction, by either SA Police or an authorised traffic management company during that time.

Asphalt to be Laid

3 February 2014 - asphalt on the Dumas St indented car parks will be laid mid week (weather dependent).

  • Works will be conducted between the hours of 9am & 3pm to minimise any disruptions to school traffic
  • A stop / go lane will be in place as the works proceed down the indented parking bays
  • Apollo and Aldrin will be closed for several hours whilst asphalt is laid
  • Detour signage will be in place together with a traffic controller stationed ahead of the closure to advise motorists
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained

The works are only expected to take several hours before work moves into the Park N Ride.

Buses to Start Service from 27 January

24 January 2014 - DPTI have advised that the Park n Ride will commence operation from Monday 27 January 2014.

Construction work to complete the Park n Ride car park and facilities will continue as well as alteration works to Adelaide Road.

Intersection Works

14 January 2014 - The upgrading of Dumas Street also includes alterations to the intersection at Dumas Street / Adelaide Road / Morphett Street.  The intersection alterations will occur in conjunction with the current Dumas Street road closures.  Traffic along Adelaide Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction in off peak times while this work is undertaken.

Road Works to Recommence 12 January

10 January 2014 - DPTI's contractor (BMD) re-commenced construction of the Dumas St Park & Ride earlier this week. The Dumas St road upgrade has encountered significant issues with the condition of the existing pavement and subgrade level which will not provide a suitable foundation for construction of the new asphalt pavement. As a result, DPTI’s road works along Dumas St are now behind program for construction of the new road pavement and associated road widening from the Kindergarten entrance back to Adelaide Road.

The State Government has advised Council that Dumas St will be closed from the Kindergarten back to Adelaide Road for approximately 1 week from Sunday 12 January 2014 to enable these essential road upgrade works to be completed before the end of January and prior to the new school term when the road becomes much busier with school traffic.

Variable Message Signs advising road users of the closure have been placed at key locations and a formal detour route will be put in place via Adelaide Road, Flaxley Road, May Road, Ray Orr Drive and Wade Street for access to Dumas St and the surrounding area. The section of detour through the residential area will be subject to a temporary 40kph speed limit on safety grounds.

Access to Auchendarroch House, Wallis Cinema and Travern, Mount Barker Primary School, TAFE and Mount Barker Community Library will be available.

Queries should be directed to the State Government’s  Information Line (1300 002 033, 9:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday) or Adam Cusenza (BMD Site Engineer) on 0417 545 063.

Resurfacing Works Progress Update

20 December 2013 - Completion of the road upgrade has been delayed due to unsuitable material being found as works were underway.  Dumas Street has now been reopened to traffic over the holiday break.

Resurfacing Works to be Completed week of 16 December

Works have progressed well for the Dumas Street resurfacing so the road will be re-opened to traffic on Friday 13 December and over the weekend.

To complete the profiling and laying of asphalt, Dumas Street will again be closed to traffic commencing Monday 16 December. Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday for the road to reopened again on Thursday 19 December.

Road Closure for Resurfacing Works

DPTI's contractor, BMD Constructions has advised that Dumas Street from Apollo Street to Wade Street will be closed to through traffic from Monday 9 December and will be reopened by Friday 13 December.
