Sealed Roads Resurfacing Program
Council is committed to maintaining all roads in good condition to provide a safe environment with a number of streets and roads scheduled for maintenance during the course of the financial year.
Works can include tree pruning or removal, drainage improvements and pavement rehabilitation. Marks may be painted on the road indicating start and finishing points. Some roads will also have concrete works completed including replacement of kerb and gutter, driveway crossings and spoon drains.
The work will necessitate closing sections of the road for a period of time on the day that construction is undertaken. During this time there may be limited access to driveway entrances and vehicles should not be left parked on the road.
All endeavours will be made to ensure a minimum of inconvenience, but alternative routes should be planned while these works are under way. Road users are requested to adhere to any detours that will be in place and plan alternate routes to avoid delay in reaching their destination.
Although work is avoided on the same day as the kerbside bin collection, please ensure bins are out by 6.30am as in most cases these will be emptied before work commences.
Council endeavours to complete the Sealed Road Works Program within the indicated year, however the program can be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs the affected segment will be scheduled in a future works program.
The Sealed Roads Resurfacing Program budget for 2023/24 is $3,969,000.

Charcoal Pit Road has deteriorated quickly this past year with wet weather and additional heavy vehicle traffic. Some temporary repairs were made prior to Christmas and further work is scheduled for patching with asphalt on Saturday 18 March 2023. It will be resurfaced with a spray seal in conjunction with Adelaide Hills Council work on the same road across the border as the two council's share responsibility for this road.
January 2023
As part of Councils sealed road re-sealing program, Council’s Asphalt contractor Downer is scheduled to complete re-sealing works during March.
Access along the roads to be sealed will be impacted and restricted at times during the works to facilitate the road resealing.
Council is very pleased to announce the asphalt used for this work will have a high recycled content to assist Council in meeting their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the circular economy without sacrificing performance. The asphalt mix will contain:
- High percentage of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP); and
- Binder/bitumen (the glue that hold the asphalt together) will be Tonerplas, a proprietary product made from used toner cartridges.
There will be traffic control in place for the duration of the works for the safety of road users and the works crew. Please consider an alternate route if possible and remember to take care and observe all signage and traffic management directions through this area during this time.
Should you require further information, please contact Council’s Project Manager, Mr Scott Thompson on telephone 8393 6424 or via email council@mountbarker.sa.gov.au
