Vernon Street Macclesfield Upgrade
Council has approved the upgrading of Vernon Street Macclesfield from Vanables Street to Luck Street including the intersection with Parin Street in the 2012/13 financial year.
The upgrade will comprise alignment improvements and reconstruction of the road pavement, footpath construction and improvements to stormwater drainage. The project aims to improve safety, access and amenity.
Council's contractor CAMCO (SA) Pty Ltd commenced works in September 2012 on the Vernon Street Upgrade.
Excavation and preparation of the re-alignment was undertaken under traffic management. Stormwater, pavement and footpath construction followed, with relocation of external service utility providers infrastructure also coordinated.
Works were completed in early 3013, with efforts enjoyed at the inaugural Macclesfield Gravity Festival which took place in April 2013, the organiser commenting "The excellent resurfacing work on the Vernon and Parin Street junction really helped the event."
The upgrade incorporated drainage improvements and improved road safety for pedestrians and commuters alike.
Associated re-vegetation works are due to commence shortly, being dependent on weather conditions.
Works are expected to commence the week of 24 September 2012 and take approximately 17 weeks to complete. While there will be traffic management strategies in place throughout this project to minimise inconvenience to the community, road users are advised to expect delays.
Access to Macclesfield School will be maintained at drop off and pick up times and vehicle access will be available during school hours.
During the 2011/12 FY Council undertook concept and preliminary design for the upgrade of Vernon Street, including the intersection with Parin Street, Macclesfield.
In the 2012/13 FY to date the detailed design of the Vernon Street Upgrade has been completed and is out to tender.
The proposed scope includes guard rail upgrade, creek culvert crossing widening, drainage, footpath and pavement works.
It is anticipated that works will commence late September 2012, with measures to be implemented to minimise disruption during construction works.
