Nairne Main Street Stage 2

BACKGROUND

The footpath renewal on the northern side of Old Princes Highway between Farquarson Street and Lower Nixon Street (Stage 2.1) has been completed.

BACKGROUND

We are presently working through the detailed engineering design for the Nairne Mainstreet Stage 2 project. These works have been separated in to four sub-stages which include

  • footpath renewal on the northern side of Old Princes Highway between Farquharson Street and Lower Nixon Street (Stage 2.1),
  • footpath renewal and retaining wall from Lower Nixon Street to the rail line (Stage 2.2),
  • the Byethorne trail extension between Byethorne Park and Old Princes Highway (subject to DIT approval),
  • and the mainstreet entrance adjoining Leith and Junction Street intersections and including the access and parking arrangements adjoining the Soldiers Memorial Hall (Stage 2.4).

We are currently working through the design phase for Stage 2.4 with our design consultants, however we intend that this design work will address the existing pedestrian and vehicle issues associated with hall and the adjoining car park. The design work for this stage will also focus on improving the pedestrian environment in front of the hall and car park and around the Leith Street and Junction Street intersection. We will seek to re-engage with the Hall Committee once we have received this first round design work from the consultant to discuss and work through any issues or feedback the committee has regarding  access to the hall and the car park.

At the conclusion of this design work, a detailed cost estimate will be available, allowing us to determine the priorities and scope of work for construction.

We anticipate that this design work and cost estimate will be finalised by early December 2021.

A Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant (LRCI) of $705,000 has been received for this project.
