Springs Road Upgrade

June 2020 Update

The contractors have have advised that this section of the upgrade will now be complete by end July (subject to favourable weather conditions).

Pavement construction, deep lift and new concrete kerbing has been undertaken from Burnbank Way to Reuben Pope Court on the northern side of the road.

Whilst not part of the original project scope, a corridor has been identified for a future footpath which can at least be formed up with a minimal layer of rubble as part of the earthworks for Stages 3 & 4 to identify the route.

Further investigation into a formal crossing point opposite Burnbank Way was also not part of the Stage 3 project scope, however this will be revisited in the future.

April 2020 - Stage 3 - To Commence mid-April

Council has resolved to award the Springs Road Upgrade (Stages 3 & 4) to SEM Civil.

Safety improvements will be undertaken including road widening, shoulder sealing, guard-railing, lighting etc.

The Stage 3 works are to be undertaken from mid-April to mid-June (Burnbank Way to Reuben Pope Court)

Traffic management will be in-place including speed and lane restrictions, please drive carefully.

March 2019 - Stage 2 - to Commence mid-March

Council is currently part way through a staged upgrade of approximately 2.2km of Springs Road, Mount Barker, from Dutton Road to Bald Hills Road. The intention of the project is to widen the roadway, replace failing pavements, improve drainage, and ultimately improve road safety along this key transport link. Works are being done progressively over several years, subject to availability of funding from the Federal Government.

At the meeting held on 4 March, Council resolved to award the tender for Stage 2.  Council’s contractors have advised that construction of Stage 2 will commence in mid-March 2019 and should be completed by May 2019, subject to weather and other circumstances.

Stage 2 of the project includes approximately 450m of road, from Waterford Avenue to Burnbank Way. A short length of roadway, at the junction of the access road that serves Council’s wastewater treatment plant and new Environmental Services Centre and St Francis de Sales College, will be excluded from Stage 2 due to ongoing construction activity on these sites.

Traffic restrictions will be in place while construction is undertaken, and alternate routes should be taken where practical. Council’s contractors will liaise with residents where their driveway access will be directly affected by the works, and will endeavour to ensure a minimum of inconvenience.
