Main Street Detailed Design Consultation
The 2015 Nairne Main Street Strategy, endorsed by Council in 2015, incorporated significant community feedback which resulted in priority actions and design principles being established.
Council has now developed detailed concept plans for Nairne Main Street.

Main Street Master Plan
The Mount Barker District Council is exploring ways of enhancing Main Road as a place to be and to do business. We want to work with the business and broader communituy to realise the potential of this main street.
Consultation with land and business owners, together with the broader community has resulted in a Master Plan being developed for Main Road, Nairne.

Results of Community Consultation for Nairne Township Master Plan Implementation
Council's Strategic Planning and Development Policy Committee considered a report on the information recevied from the community consultation on the Nairne Retail options.
The resolution from the Strategic Planning and Development Policy meeting was considered by Council at the meeting held on 16 December 2013.
The communication processes will commence shortly.
Community Consultation Nairne Township Master Plan Implementation
Seeking Comment on the Implementation of the Nairne Township Master Plan
As part of implementing the Nairne Township Master Plan, Council is addressing a number of issues linked to the prioritisation of key initiatives in the Master Plan and potential zoning amendments in time. The implementation of the Nairne Township Master Plan will guide development in Nairne for the foreseeable future.
A Background Information sheet on some of these issues has been prepared.
Council has recently completed community consultation on options to improve safety on North Road Nairne.
The priorities that Council is currently consulting on include the best way of reinvigorating the Main Street over a period of time, how retail development fits in with the future of Nairne including the potential for a supermarket and how the Nairne Soldiers’ Memorial Hall may fit in with the need for a modern community centre in Nairne as the population grows. Council has identified some key principles on which it is seeking feedback including the relative significance of generating jobs in Nairne as opposed to elsewhere in the District with access through commuting.
In line with the Nairne Township Master Plan, a Retail Review Study and additional work was completed by expert consultants. The Study and other materials are available in full can be found here.
Zoning amendments foreshadowed in the Nairne Township Master Plan will require a statutory process that includes submitting a Statement of Intent to take a Development Plan Amendment (DPA) to the Planning Minister for approval, the drafting of the DPA and dedicated consultation with the community on the draft DPA. By consulting on these issues now, Council believes that it will raise the level of community confidence in the planning process and any proposed policy changes and lead to a ‘no surprises’ outcome when the draft DPA is prepared.
The Community Information Forum was held on 15 October attended by over 70 residents. The powerpoint presentation is available below.
The consultation process is designed to make sure that as many community members as possible have a chance to raise questions and provide comments, ideas and other input. This is your chance to have your say, hear what others think and reinforce the qualities of Nairne that you value.

Nairne Retail Review
An open tender call has occurred and Property & Advisory Pty. Ltd has been commissioned and the study now commenced.
This will be the subject of consideration at a future meeting of the SPDP Committee and Council has approached a consultant to provide a recommended approach to community consultation on the Study outcome.
The consultant provided an update on the project to the Strategic Planning and Development Policy Committee Meeting held on 12 March 2013.
Nairne Township Master Plan
Nairne Township Plan Adopted by Council 11 February 2013
The Nairne Township Master Plan was adopted by the Strategic Planning and Development Policy Committee at the meeting held on Monday 11 February 2013.
Some of the recommended actions in the Plan are already work in progress including that Council:
- has made a further submission to the Power Line Environment Committee seeking a funding contribution to enable the power lines in theMain Streetto be placed underground;
- is continuing to advocate to the State Government for the construction of the new freeway interchange atBald Hills Road; and
- has commissioned a consultant to undertake traffic surveys on North Road and investigate suitable traffic management measures to address any identified problems.

Community Consultation for Draft Nairne Township Master Plan
Community consultation is now closed
The District Council of Mount Barker has recently endorsed the draft Nairne Township Master Plan for community consultation providing the opportunity for Nairne residents, the business community and other stakeholders to participate in the design and future development of their Township.
Information gained via the previous community engagement process has been used to influence the content of the draft Master Plan which focuses on five (5) main themes, each containing discussion and analysis of the opportunities and potential for future improvements and change over time.

The Draft Nairne Township Master Plan will be considered at the Strategic Planning and Development Policy Committee meeting to be held on Monday 9 July 2012 commencing at 4.30pm. Residents are welcome to attend these meetings observing meeting protocols for questions and comments.
