Township Unsealed Road Sealing Program
Background
In November 2015, the Mount Barker District Council created a new program using its funding allocation from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program, aimed at sealing unsealed roads within various townships in the district. It is anticipated that 2023/24 will be the last year of this program.
Preliminary works will be undertaken such as geotechnical investigations and feature surveying prior to civil works commencing. Tree pruning will also be undertaken to facilitate construction and provide a clear vehicle pathway.

March 2024
Barker Road construction will commence on 6 March to 15 March 2024.
The road will be closed to through traffic during working hours only.
Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works for worker and road user safety. Pleas take care in the area and consider an alternative so there is no delay in reaching your destination.
February 2024
Nixon Street construction will commence the week of 5 February 2024, focusing on the section west of Farquharson and take approximately 2 months to complete.
Works will include:
- Concrete kerbing (southern side)
- Drainage enhancements
- Bitumen road surface

December 2023
Barker Road - Road construction works are planned to commence and be completed within February – April 2024.
Nixon Street - Council's Contractor plans to commence works early January 2024, with the project expected be completed by March 2024.
