Update on the investigations into the recycled water supply.

The cloudy appearance that some properties are noticing is due to air entrained within the water which gives it a milky appearance, investigations into the source of the air are ongoing and the results will be posted to Council's website once they are available. It is important to note that the air in the water is not impacting on water quality, only its appearance.

The odours are still being investigated, Council recognises the impact that this is having on customers and will be turning off the recycled supply today until the cause can be determined.  Council’s bore water system will be used to supply water to properties while the recycled water is off line, this is an automatic transition that will not interrupt supply.

Council has tested the recycled water at various locations, these tests have confirmed that the recycled water supplied to properties complies with the National Recycled Water Guidelines and is safe to use for its intended purpose. However, due to the odours the recycled supply will be stopped until the source of the odours can be identified and rectified. The results of this part of the investigation will also be reported via Council’s web-site.

As described above, the bore water supply is used as a back-up supply when the recycled water is off line or unavailable. The staining in toilets that some properties have noticed is due to the iron content of bore water and is not associated with water quality issues, it is normal for some staining to occur from the use of bore water.

Council staff will be in the area again today. They will bleed recycled water from the mains to speed up the transition to bore water. When further information becomes available this will be uploaded to the Council’s website.

Council is aware of recent issues associated with the Recycled Water Supply at Meadows and would like to assure our Recycled Water Customers that the water is meeting specifications and has been tested regularly both at the source and at properties to ensure compliance with supply standards.

Council’s Wastewater Team have conducted testing at individual properties and flushing of the mains, they are in the area today (Friday 12 July) to continue with line flushing and monitoring of the recycled water supply.

Recent test results from properties have confirmed that the water is safe to use for its intended purpose. Investigations into localised odours and discoloration are continuing to determine the cause, however it is believed at this stage to be associated with minerals in the bore water that is used to provide a backup supply to the recycled water system.

Regular updates will be posted on Council’s web-site.

The recycled water supply from the Meadows Wastewater Treatment Plant will be reinstated today to customers in Meadows.

Council's recycled water supply in Meadows (used predominantly for toilet flushing and garden watering) has been offline for an extended period to allow for some planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs to occur. Whilst this supply was offline, Council’s groundwater bore supply was in operation resulting in negligible disruption to customers.
