The Linear Trail to Hurling Drive, Mount Barker, will stretch from Mount Barker Creek behind St Francis de Sales College to Hurling Drive along the Steam ranger railway corridor.

The project is part of Council’s wider Trails Plan for Mount Barker, Littlehampton and Nairne and will provide a key pedestrian and cyclist link from Bluestone and land rezoned via the 2010 Ministerial DPA to the Laratinga Trail and the Mount Barker Town Centre.

Stage 1 of the linear trail was constructed in 2014, from the Mt Barker Creek to Alexandrina Rd.  More information can be found here on the Completed Projects page.

Stage 2 involves the construction of two Pedestrian Activated Crossings (PAC’s), at Alexandrina Road and Wellington Road. The PAC’s traffic signals will be coordinated with the adjacent railway crossing signals at both locations.

Stage 3 of the project involves construction of a further 1km of linear trail along the SteamRanger corridor, from Alexandrina Rd to Hurling Drive.

Stage 2: Pedestrian Activated Crossings & Stage 3: Linear Trail

February 2019

Council has engaged Camco (SA) Pty Ltd to undertake construction of the PAC’s, in collaboration with the SteamRanger Heritage Railway. Works are due to commence on site from 25th February 2019, starting at Alexandrina Road. Works at Wellington Road will commence from approximately 27th February.

  • The Alexandrina Road PAC is expected to be fully operational in April 2019, subject to any unforeseen circumstances.
  • The Wellington Road PAC is somewhat more technically complex, and is expected to be operational around June 2019.

Traffic controls will be in place while construction is undertaken, and alternate routes should be taken where practical.

Construction of the Stage 3 linear trail is also expected to commence shortly, with procurement of these works currently being finalised by Council. Works are anticipated to commence in late March, and should be completed by June 2019.
