National Reconciliation Week (Wednesday 27 May – Wednesday 3 June) is an opportunity to build relationships and develop a deeper understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
This year’s theme is ‘All In’ and we’re inviting all residents living on Peramangk or Kaurna Country in Mount Barker district to REKINDLE on Saturday 23 May at Flaxley Woven (1909 Strathalbyn Road, Flaxley) from 6pm - 10pm.
REKINDLE is an event where community can gather to share their hopes, dreams and plans for reconciliation through spoken word, stories, visual art and music.
Alongside professional performers, all are welcome to take the mic and speak - or sing - as a show of support for reconciliation in the open mic part of the program.
To help you prepare, we’ll be offering free poetry and songwriting workshops as listed below in the lead‑up to the event so you can build your skills and confidence. But don’t worry if performing is not your thing – having a supportive audience is just as important as having people willing to get up and speak or sing!
