The Cedars

The Cedars House

Located in historic Hahndorf, The Cedars is the iconic estate of renowned Australian artist Sir Hans Heysen (1877-1968) and his family, including accomplished artist daughter, Nora Heysen (1911-2003). The destination has an extraordinary breadth of offerings in art, history, architecture, gardens, locally made food and beverages, natural bushland and more. It is now under the custodianship of the non-for-profit Hans Heysen Foundation whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the Heysen legacy. The house and studios are lovingly retained with the original furniture, collections and artwork of the Heysen family.

Visitors to The Cedars can tour the beautiful home and the heritage-listed studios of both Hans and Nora Heysen, and can delight in the beautiful and extensive Artist’s Garden (the only original one of its kind in Australia), immerse themselves amongst the magnificent gums on the property, and relax in the recently opened Cedars CafĂ© & Tea Rooms.

Public tours are held at 11am and 2pm Tuesday to Sunday and Monday public holidays. For bookings and more information please visit www.hansheysen.com.au, phone 8388 7277 or email contactus@hansheysen.org.au.
