Rural Property Addressing

Rural property addressing helps identify and locate rural properties. They are especially useful for emergency response personnel such as ambulance, fire and police, as it helps them to locate your property quickly during an emergency.

The number allocated to a rural property is measured in distance from the start of the road to the entrance of the property. The distance in metres is then divided by ten. Even numbers are on the right side of the road and odd numbers on the left.

For example, if the entrance to a property is 5,080 metres from the start of the road and on the right-hand side, the number becomes 508.

Rural road maps define the name, the start point and direction of every rural road in the state.

The rural property address sign is installed on a post near the entrance to the property’s driveway.

For more information on rural property address sign installation, please read the specification guidelines here.

If you are constructing a new building on your property please contact Council via phone on 8391 7200 or email council@mountbarker.sa.gov.au for information about getting a new property address.
