Court 3 Upgrade

What we’re doing

Improve the heating and cooling issues on Court 3 by installing insulation in the walls and fans on the ceiling.

How much it is going to cost

$146,140

Timeframes

2022/23

Background

A number of classes are cancelled each year due to extreme heat and uncomfortable conditions.

The Progress

April 2023

Insulation has been installed on all external walls consistent with the original scope. Two evaporative air conditioning units have also been installed and are now operational.  It is expected that all works will be complete by the end of this week enabling Belgravia to move equipment back in and occupy the space from next week.

May 2023

Officially opened!

The Court 3 Improvements were officially opened by Mayor David Leach on Thursday 18 May 2023.

Attended by Council members, representatives of local members of parliament and parents and children, the court improvements were on full show as the gymnasts started to go through their paces.

Extremes of hot and cold have, in the past, inhibited members of the Academy from performing at optimum levels with frequent cancellation of training sessions having occurred due to the temperature.

The group use Court 3 all year round for their recreational and competition gymnastics teams and inadequate heating and cooling of the court had posed a real concern to users during the summer and winter months.

The upgrade to the court has included installation of evaporative air conditioning, wall insulation, and new carpet squares along the spectator hallway.

Mt Barker Council Mayor, David Leach said that the improvements to court 3 will ensure that the comfort of the gymnasts is maintained all year round so that they can perform at their best.
