Food Systems Project

The ‘Food Systems Project’ is a sustainability initiative of Mount Barker District Council in collaboration with 8 other local Councils, Green Adelaide, Wellbeing SA and the Heart Foundation. The project seeks to understand the ways and extent to which the current food system influences economic, social and environmental outcomes for the community.

The term ‘food system’ describes the various elements that go into the growing, production, marketing, distribution, consumption and disposal of food.

As part of the ‘Food Systems Project’, food systems mapping was undertaken in 4 local Council areas, including Mount Barker Council. The ultimate aim  of the food systems mapping was to increase knowledge and understanding and to guide actions to support and strengthen food systems in the 4 LGAs

Four engagement workshops were held, one in each Council, and engagement reports were produced. A toolbox guide to help other Councils go through similar processes was also produced. The engagement report from the Mount Barker workshop can be accessed here. Our Local Food Systems Mount Barker Engagement Report - December 2021
