Beauty Services

All beauty businesses (hairdressers, personal care and body artists) are required to ensure the safety and hygiene of their premises, practices and equipment. Under the South Australian Public Health Act 2011 Environmental Health Officers are authorised to inspect and monitor premises and enforce requirements communicated by SA Health.

Any business providing hair, beauty or related services must comply with the Health Standards of Practice for Hairdressing and if premises are providing waxing, manicures, pedicures, body piercing, tattoos or permanent makeup staff must also comply with Safe and Hygienic Practice of Skin Penetration.

These guidelines are used to inform the industry and the community of the requirements that must be met by providers on areas such as infection risk, decontamination of equipment, disinfectants, operator hygiene and cleanliness.

Please notify Council using the Beauty Business Notification online form if you intend on trading as a hairdressing, beauty, nail salon or body art business.

Unhygienic practices can result in the spread of infection and disease. If you have any concerns contact our Environmental Health Officers on 8391 7200.
