Arts Plan
Council endorsed the Arts Plan at their meeting on 5 December 2022 (agenda / minutes).
The Plan identifies key actions over a 5 year period to assist the development of a strong and sustainable arts sector that contributes to the economic, cultural, environmental and social fabric of the region. The three key themes of the Plan are:
- Arts and Cultural Tourism - Mount Barker district offers captivating experiences that celebrate the character of the region and contribute to the visitor economy.
- Community Arts and Cultural Development - Mount Barker district residents have access to arts activities that celebrate local identity, enhance the landscape and help residents connect with people and places.
- Creative Industries - Mount Barker district is a place where artists grow their practice, experiment and build sustainable creative businesses and where arts actively contribute to the local economy.

As of June 2025, Council is making strong progress on the Arts Plan 2022-2027, advancing initiatives that align with the Community Plan 2044 vision to be the most liveable region in South Australia. The Plan’s three key themes show substantial progress;
- Arts & Cultural Tourism: 11 of 13 actions complete or underway
- Community Arts & Cultural Development: 15 of 16 actions complete or underway
- Creative Industries: 9 of 13 actions complete or underway
