Summit Precinct
The Summit Precinct has the potential to be one of Australia’s leading regional recreation, leisure, sport and entertainment facilities while supporting the growth of Mount Barker; one of South Australia’s fastest growing regions.
Located on ~50 hectares at the corner of Bald Hills and Springs Roads in Mount Barker, the Summit Precinct accommodates the existing Summit Sports and Recreation Park, soon to be built Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Laratinga walking trail, heritage barns and planned Regional Adventure Playground. Rehabilitation of the Mount Barker Creek that flows through the site will create additional walking opportunities and a biodiversity corridor from the Laratinga Wetlands, and in time, up to Mt Barker Summit.
While providing amenities for our local community, the site is capable of generating a level of private sector investment able to create local employment and enhance support for the Adelaide Hills tourism sector. Early engagement with the market indicates an appetite for uses such as:
- Tourist park accommodation,
- Hotel accommodation and conferencing,
- Indoor recreation activities like ten pin bowling and trampolining, and
- Outdoor recreation activities like mini golf and aerial ropes course.
Expressions of Interest
Council has undertaken an Expression of Interest (EOI) process that sought submissions to help deliver and operate the Summit Precinct.
Property advisors Alinea Group and Leedwell assisted Council to administer this process which included a national campaign and targeted to groups known to be interested in this opportunity. The EOI was issued to the market from 23 May 2023 to 3 August 2023. Learn more in the Summit Information Memorandum or visit the Alinea Group website.
In this initial phase, the community can stay informed by signing up to receive project updates. As the market interest is solidified, there will be opportunities for future engagement on specific elements of the overall precinct.
