Temporary Parking Controls Mount Barker Hospital Development

Published 18th June 2026

The Mount Barker District Council continues to receive concerns from residents regarding parking impacts associated with the construction of the new Mount Barker Hospital.

Council acknowledges that increased parking demand in surrounding residential streets has resulted from construction activities. This increase in on-street parking has created concerns relating to obstruction of resident access, reduced sight distance for motorists, and impacts on the safe and efficient movement of waste collection, emergency vehicles and general traffic within the local road network.

In response, Council has undertaken an assessment of roads surrounding the Mount Barker Hospital development area to identify locations experiencing high parking demand associated with hospital-related activities with the following roads identified as being significantly affected:

  • Lewis Avenue
  • Deer Avenue
  • Williams Street
  • Downing Street (between Williams St and southern end)
  • Wunderly Drive
  • Cedar Grove
  • Liebelt Road (between Cedar Grove and Hawthorn Way)

Council will be introducing temporary timed parking restrictions along sections of the roads listed above, through the installation of parking control signs at appropriate intervals along one side of the road. As shown in the attached plan, the proposed parking controls would operate 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, commencing from Monday 22 June 2026.

The proposed restrictions are intended to:

  • Manage daytime parking demand associated with construction;
  • Improve sight distance and traffic safety; and
  • Support more efficient vehicle movement within surrounding streets.

Residents and visitors will continue to be able to park on the street outside of these operating hours, including evenings, overnight periods, weekends and public holidays. These parking restrictions are proposed as a temporary measure and are intended to remain in place only until parking demand and associated public safety risks are alleviated. Please refer to the attached plan for details of the proposed parking arrangements.
