Arts Grants
This new grant program provides funding for professional artists and arts organisations to support the creation of works of high artistic merit.
If the project is community arts and cultural development, Council’s Community Grants program is the better aligned program to apply to.
Community arts and cultural development focusses on accessible creative activities that foster broad community participation and positions the community at the centre of the activity, rather than professional artists.
Please read the Arts Grants Guidelines prior to submitting an application.

Frequently Asked Questions
Applicants can request grants of up to $5,000.
Eligible applicants include:
- Professional artists (individuals or groups), whether emerging, mid‑career, or established
- Arts organisations
Applicants need to have:
- An active ABN
- Current public liability insurance, or a commitment to obtain it if the application is successful
- Letters of confirmation from relevant project partners (such as artists, venue managers, landowners, etc.)
Projects must meet all of the following criteria:
- Start after January 2027
- Be new, or represent a new or extended stage of an existing longer-term project
- Provide some form of public engagement
- Be created and delivered within the district, or be delivered by a Mount Barker District Council resident
Council’s Community Grants Officer will screen all applications for eligibility. The Community Grants Officer will contact applicants if necessary, to clarify aspects of their application or return missing information. Applicants will be given five working days to respond.
The Arts Grants will be assessed by the Community Funding Assessment Committee. For the purposes of the Arts Grants, the Community Funding Assessment Committee will have two independent panel members, drawn from a panel of six independent Arts Grants assessors.
Following endorsement at the Council meeting, applicants are notified via email and if successful are required to complete a conditions of grant acceptance form and attach an invoice for the successful grant amount which will be processed.
