New Footpath Program

New Footpaths Strategy

Council endorsed the New Footpaths Strategy in 2021 consisting of an $11 million investment over 10 years and supported the development of a detailed program of works.

Identification of new footpath locations have been informed through collating outcomes of the township planning consultations, customer requests, conversations with community groups, internal consultation and the annual business plan feedback.

New footpaths are prioritised upon the following endorsed criteria:

  • Traffic impact - determined through the volume and type of traffic using the road the path is to be adjacent.
  • Accessibility - the construction of a path will provide linkages to pedestrian generators and attractors such as community facilities, schools, aged care facilities, tourist facilities, residential areas, and shopping precincts.
  • Demand - where there is evident demand and a positive impact on the network.
  • Connectivity - connection to the existing footpath network through the construction of missing footpath links, or the creation of desired walking loops or walking destinations.

The program is comprised of two stages: planning and design; and construction of new footpaths.

The investment into new footpaths and the coming year's program is reviewed each year as part of the development of the annual business plan and budget.  Refer to the table below for the latest on design, construction and footpaths included for the year.

The work will necessitate closing sections of the road for a period of time on the day that construction is undertaken.  During this time there may be limited access to driveway entrances and vehicles should not be left parked on the road.
