Youth Stories

The Mount Barker District Council Youth Storytelling Project was developed to centre and celebrate the voices of young people growing up across our district.

In 2025, Council engaged local filmmaker Rebecca Peters to work alongside young people to capture their stories, who they are, what they care about, the incredible things they are contributing to their community, and what it’s really like to grow up in Mount Barker today.

Through a series of short films, young people share their lived experiences, passions, challenges and hopes for the future. These stories shine a light on leadership, creativity, advocacy, volunteering and community connection, while also exploring themes such as access, transport, belonging, and the importance of local spaces for young people.

These five films form part of a broader body of work, with a longer-form documentary to be released during Youth Week 2026, bringing these stories together into a deeper reflection on youth life in the Adelaide Hills.
