Hans Heysen Statue Unveiled
A bronze statue of one of Australia's best known landscape painters, Sir Hans Heysen OBE now stands in the main street of Hahndorf.
On 9 August 2023, the bronze sculpture of renowned artist Hans Heysen, outside the Hahndorf Academy, was unveiled by Premier Peter Malinauskas, SA Governor Frances Adamson, Heysen’s grandson Peter Heysen and nine-year old Ever Campbell, grand daughter of The Cedars curator Allan Campbell.
Funding for the sculpture, which cost more than $100,000, came from private donors and the Hahndorf Business and Tourism Association and it was created by sculptor Robert Hannaford and bronze caster Tim Thomson.
Other groups involved in bringing the project to life included the Hans Heysen Foundation, the Mount Barker District Council and construction company Marshall and Brougham.
