40 KM/H NOW IN HAHNDORF
Our civil maintenance crew was busy last week putting up the 116 new signs throughout the streets of Hahndorf.
Mayor David said: “This is a great win by the Hahndorf community, they have advocated and the result they asked for has been delivered.” The last sign has been put in place and the speed limit throughout Hahndorf is now officially 40 kilometres/hour!

For a number of years members of the Hahndorf community have been seeking lower speed limits in the urban areas of the township. In August 2021, Mount Barker District Council endorsed the implementation of a 40 km/hr township area speed limit for Hahndorf to improve road safety outcomes for all road users. That endorsement gave council officers confidence to work with Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to prepare the necessary assessments and reports to introduce this important road safety improvement.
The Minister has recently given the green light for a 40km/h speed limit across Hahndorf.
The council has begun installation of signage as per the plan below, which is expected to be complete within the next two weeks.
