Adelaide Hills Visitor Services Adapt to Demand
Located at the Hahndorf Academy, the Visitor Information Centre enjoyed the support of a small team of terrific volunteers who generously donated hundreds of hours of their time and local knowledge.
However, the rise of online platforms for accommodation, tour bookings, and itinerary planning has shifted the way people plan their trips.
While Council explores alternative visitor servicing models, interim measures are being implemented in collaboration with Adelaide Hills Tourism (AHT) and Hahndorf Business & Traders (HBTA).
Some of these measures include a six-month Virtual Visitor App Trial starting in February 2024, expanded content on the Adelaide Hills Tourism website, QR codes at key locations directing to the trial app, and maps and brochures supported by the Hahndorf Business & Traders Association for content and distribution.
To address specific needs during peak periods and major events, pop-up visitor information services will be considered. Additionally, Council has recruited a Tourism & Business Development Officer, starting in mid-February, who will play a pivotal role in supporting the tourism industry and evolving our visitor servicing model.
We appreciate the dedication of the volunteers at the Visitor Information Centre and remain committed to providing valuable services to both residents and visitors in the Adelaide Hills.
