Council opens bumper August grant round
Council’s Community Grants Officer Alyssa Hill said this year’s funding will be offered as a single ‘bumper’ round instead of having the usual two opportunities spread throughout the financial year.
“When it was announced the South Australian council elections would be deferred to April next year, we decided to bring these grants forward, combine them into one round and increase the amount of funding available,” Alyssa said.
“This means for the very first time, applicants can seek up to $5,000 for each project and submit multiple applications in this round provided they’re for different initiatives.”
“From helping groups cover the costs of basic equipment needs to enabling them to push boundaries with innovative ideas, Council’s goal is to support projects across the district that deliver long-lasting community impact.”
Adelaide Hills Karate successfully applied for a Community Grant last financial year.
“The grant enabled us to buy some much-needed equipment to continue operating classes safely and to replace some old, outdated equipment,” Head Instructor Josh Smith said.
“I’d encourage anyone in the community that’s running a community group or not-for-profit to apply - it’s really simple and it’s worthwhile.”
Other previous recipients have included Littlehampton Primary School which received an Environmental Grant to install trail cameras in Coppins Bush Reserve to monitor wildlife movements and Mount Barker’s Choir Cecilia who used its Community Grant funding to buy new sheet music for its members.
Two information sessions for groups interested in applying for Community and Environmental Grants will be held at the Council Chambers and streamed online on:
Thursday 13 August from 6pm - 7.30pm
Tuesday 25 August from 3.30pm – 5pm
Applications for Community and Environmental Grants are now open and close on Wednesday 30 September.
