Compassion for Humanity Begins with the Environment
20 July 2024
In a display of dedication and unity, the Tzu Chi Buddhist Compassionate Relief Foundation has helped transform our local landscape with an astounding 10,000 native plants put in by 350 volunteers investing countless hours to the task.
Since 2018, the foundation has partnered with Council, creating an alliance that breathes life into the Laratinga Wetland and Mount Barker Creek through annual planting events.
The foundation's members, driven by a passion for the environment, devote hundreds of hours each year to planting native trees, shrubs, and grasses. Their efforts rejuvenate our vital ecosystems and enhance the natural beauty of the area. The partnership has flourished over the years, becoming a highlight of our revegetation program.
This year, the Tzu Chi Foundation, alongside the dedicated Laratinga Wetland Warrior volunteers, planted around 1,000 native shrubs and grasses along Mount Barker Creek. This initiative not only rehabilitates the area but also complements the existing remnant overstory, ensuring a thriving and balanced ecosystem. Beyond planting, the group champions environmentally friendly lifestyle choices and recycling projects, inspiring the community to embrace sustainable practices.
The ongoing collaboration between Council and the Tzu Chi Foundation shows how compassion for humanity begins with nurturing the environment. By working together to restore and protect our precious natural resources, they create a legacy of care that benefits both people and the planet.
