There was strong community support for keeping Fidler Lane open to pedestrians and cyclists.
We will soon install permanent traffic management measures, including fencing, a gate, and a clear opening for pedestrians, cyclists, and mobility devices.
Council staff will work closely with SteamRanger Heritage Railway to maintain pedestrian and cyclist access at the railway line, reflecting the community’s desire to use the laneway as a trail. Safety improvements at the rail crossing will be designed with SteamRanger Heritage before submitting a safety argument to the Office of National Rail Safety Regulator.
This decision helps manage the unsealed road network in Mount Barker and demonstrates our commitment to providing safe and suitable trails for the community.
