New 10-year kerbside waste and recycling collection contract
The new contract prioritises improving waste diversion from landfill, aligning with the council's Waste to Resources Management Plan. As part of this initiative, Solo will subcontract the processing of recyclables and food and garden organics. Recyclables will be processed at the Southern Materials Recycling Facility in Seaford Heights, while food and garden organics will continue to be managed by Peats Soil and Garden Supplies.
Mount Barker Mayor, David Leach said that the new contract with Solo Resource Recovery ensures that residents and businesses across the district will continue to receive reliable kerbside waste and recycling collection services.
"Council is dedicated to delivering high-quality services to the community while advancing our environmental goals," Mayor Leach said.
“Together with Solo, we are aiming to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and make recycling easier and more efficient by working with subcontractors who are leaders in resource recovery and the circular economy."
Solo’s SA State Manager, Adrian Rose added: "Solo is very excited to continue being of service to the residents and businesses of Mount Barker District Council and further assisting the council reach the goals of its waste management plan through the introduction of new technology."
The collection schedule will remain unchanged under the new contract and will introduce several improvements, including new waste bin lid colours transitioning from blue to red to comply with Australian Standards, enhanced vehicle tracking technology to manage missed bins and service delivery, and a fleet of new, efficient trucks with advanced technology.
