Council continues advocacy for intersection upgrade in Meadows
After years of community calls for improved safety and traffic flow, and a recent DIT study recommending a roundabout as the best solution, the project has yet to meet funding criteria under the Adelaide Hills Productivity and Road Safety Program. As a result, no timeline has been set by the State Government for the upgrade.
The increased traffic through Meadows reflects the town's role as a thoroughfare to the Fleurieu Peninsula, as well as its residential growth over the past decade. During peak times, the intersection becomes heavily congested, with traffic queued along multiple roads.
Mount Barker Mayor, David Leach has sent correspondence to relevant State and Federal politicians regarding the funding need for this intersection upgrade and emphasised the importance of improving safety and traffic flow for both vehicles and pedestrians.
“Council will continue to advocate on behalf of the community for funding for this critical upgrade,” Mayor Leach said.
“Council recently invested $1.2 million to upgrade Nottage Road and now looks to DIT to complete the intersection upgrade, which includes pedestrian safety improvements.
“Whilst there is currently no commitment to fund the project, Council will work with the State Government to prioritise and secure funding."
DIT has released a concept design for a roundabout for the intersection, which was the community’s preference. View the DIT Meadows Roundabout Concept Plan
