Woofside Road Dog Park now open in Nairne
Mount Barker District Council Mayor David Leach joined local dog owners and their pets at a community celebration and said the 5,000m2 dog park is a first for the town.
“Woofside Road Dog Park is a wonderful asset for Nairne and will create opportunities for people and their pets to interact and socialise, and help build a stronger community,” Mayor Leach said.
“It’s another step towards council delivering on its vision to make the Mount Barker district the most liveable region in South Australia by providing quality public spaces and providing safe and accessible community facilities for social inclusion.”
Designed by Nairne landscape architect Clover Green Space, and built by Space Landscape Construction, approximately half of the $280,000 project cost for the Woofside Road Dog Park has been funded by the Nairne developer contribution fund to help support community facility upgrades and improvements in the growing town.

Councillor Simon Westwood has been a long-time advocate for a dog park in Nairne and said Woofside Road incorporated a range of best-practice design principles to maximise safety and comfort for owners and animals.
“From day one, council has been focused on creating a park that provides dog owners and their pets with the best and safest experience possible and we’ve delivered on that,” Cr Westwood said.
“Woofside Road has everything a modern dog park should with fencing and airlock gates that are consistent with state guidelines as well as other features including a gravel loop walking path, a water fountain with built-in dog bowl as well as seating, a shelter and waste bag dispensers.”
The name – Woofside Road Dog Park - was endorsed by council at its January meeting and revealed at the official opening after residents were invited to take part in a naming competition in late 2024.
Woofside Road Dog Park is located on the corner of Woodside Road and Webber Drive in Nairne and is well connected to existing walking paths and nearby open space including Byethorne Park.
