Concert to inspire climate change action
Conceived by Mount Barker District Council, and delivered in partnership with The Cheese Factory, Tunes for Trees is part of the inaugural statewide climate action festival Adelaide Climate Action Week.
Council Arts Officer Sally Hardy said Tunes for Trees will be a ‘celebration of live music and the environment’ with performances by award-winning singer-songwriter Loren Kate, respected jazz pianist Dave McEcvoy, Triple J Unearthed artist Naomi Keyte, French Latin fusion ensemble Melange Latino and local keyboard prodigy Jed Ives.
“Tunes For Trees will be a unifying musical experience which we hope inspires people to feel they’re part of a growing movement committed to protecting the climate and environment for future generations,” Sally said.
“People attending the event on the Saturday can also join a Pop-Up Choir, led by professional singer Natalie Ermer, and combine their collective voices to highlight climate change and the importance of conserving nature.”
Council’s Principal Sustainability Advisor Greg Sarre said climate change has been identified as a ‘top priority’ for Council in its Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2035.
“Council is focused on reducing emissions and improving how we manage climate risk,” Greg said.
“Another key focus area for Council is supporting climate action at a community level and Tunes for Trees will help bring people together and inspire them to make positive change.”
Tickets for Tunes for Trees cost $55 for a full day and Pop-Up Choir only tickets on the Saturday are $15.
All tickets can be purchased through Humanitix.
Every ticket sold for Tunes for Trees includes a native tree sapling which people can either plant at home or donate to Council’s community tree planting program.
Additional native plants will also be for sale at the event.
Adelaide Climate Action Week runs from Monday 27 July until Sunday 2 August.
The Cheese Factory is located at 239 Kondoparinga Road in Meadows.
