New pool brings state swimming championships to Mount Barker
The championships will run from 11 to 13 April 2026, bringing together country swimming clubs from across the state for three days of racing.
The event at the Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre will mark the first major competition at the facility’s 25-metre pool.
Mount Barker District Council Acting Mayor Rowan Voogt said the championships provide an opportunity to demonstrate the centre’s capability as a competition venue.
“This championship not only celebrates the return of a much-loved country swimming event but also highlights the capability of our new aquatic facility to host competition at a high level,” Mr Voogt said.
“The 25-metre pool has been designed with competition in mind, and we’re proud to see it make its debut on the state stage. It’s an investment that supports local athletes while attracting major events to our region.”
SwimmingSA Events Manager Wade Zammit Meaney said:
"Bringing a 25-metre country championship back to South Australia is a historic moment for our sport. It’s been fantastic to see the community embrace the Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre, with local clubs and schools already making great use of the facility in the lead-up to the championships.”
“We're really appreciative of the work of Mount Barker District Council and venue operator Belgravia Leisure in working with us to make it happen."
The 3-day event will draw competitors, coaches and spectators from across regional South Australia, providing a boost to the local economy and further strengthening Mount Barker’s reputation as a destination for major sporting events.
Further information, including nominations and event schedules, will be released via Swim Central and the SwimmingSA website ahead of the championships.
