Make Believe Dream Create Takes Over The Stable
Hosted in The Stable, this newly established artist-in-residence program will see six professional South Australian artists immerse themselves in the Macclesfield community and landscape, each bringing a unique creative vision to life.
From Monday, The Stable will welcome its first artist, marking the beginning of a rolling residency program that will run until February 2026. The program is designed to support both the creation of new work and public engagement, with each artist hosting opportunities for locals to connect with their creative process — from open studios to informal showings and artist talks.
The residency kicks off with Jake Logos, a Strathalbyn-based artist whose project Gnosis promises a rich, immersive experience. Running from 4 August to 14 September, Jake will collaborate with sound designer Dr Sebastian Tomczak, Dancenorth Artistic Director Kyle Page, and costume design studio Vigilantia Australia to deliver an innovative installation blending dance, volumetric projections, and sound.
Following Jake, Macclesfield’s own Glenn Hastings will take up residence from 15 to 28 September. Glenn will focus on stone sculpture, working with black granite sourced from Walker Flat. Visitors can expect to see the transformation of raw stone into striking, tactile forms inspired by the local landscape.
From 29 September to 2 November, Brenton Hill from Aldgate will explore the natural beauty of Mount Dennis and Crystal Lake through printmaking, painting, and collage. Brenton’s practice is rooted in a deep appreciation for place, and his time in residence is sure to result in a layered and reflective body of work.
In November, expressive portrait artist Mia Behrens from Waterfall Gully will join the program. From 3 to 30 November, Mia will focus on capturing local faces and characters through vibrant mark making and spontaneous brushwork, celebrating the uniqueness of the Macclesfield community.
Next, Natalia Jastrzebski from Burnside will spend December and early January painting en plein air in native bushland reserves around the area. With support from the Macclesfield Bushcare Group, Natalia will create both oil sketches and refined studio works that reflect the textures, colours, and spirit of the region.
The final residency will feature Marie-Louise Incoll, whose project will explore spoken word poetry and original soundscapes. Running from 5 January to 1 February 2026, her work will examine themes of connection, place, and emotional wellbeing, inviting audiences to reflect on the stories we carry and the spaces we share.
The Make Believe Dream Create program highlights the power of art to inspire, engage, and bring people together. With each artist contributing their own voice and vision, the next six months promise to be an exciting chapter in Macclesfield’s cultural life. Keep an eye out for community events, exhibitions, and sharings – you won’t want to miss it.
