Proposed Partial Road Closure - Fidler Lane east of Barker Road

Published 10th April 2024

At the meeting held on 2 April 2024, Council resolved to consult on the proposal to close a portion of Fidler Lane to all motor vehicles. This letter is to inform you and seek your feedback.

Pursuant to Section 32(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 Mount Barker District Council hereby gives notice of the proposal to close a portion of Fidler Lane, Mount Barker at its western end (from Barker Road to 1,100m east) to all motor vehicles as marked in the attached map.

What does this mean?

  • Council is proposing to install traffic management measures to restrict all motor vehicles to the section of Fidler Lane from Barker Road to 1,100m east.
  • Fidler Lane will continue to be a public road reserve to be maintained by Council.
  • There will be no property access points within the proposed section to be closed.
  • The existing pedestrian and cyclist movement along the proposed section to be closed will be maintained.

There is a potential for a full closure to all forms of transport, including pedestrians and cyclists, at the Fidler Lane rail crossing. This closure is to be determined by the Office of the National Rail Regulator. The potential closure of the Fidler Lane rail crossing is related to the requirement that a new level crossing will be opened at Heysen Boulevard that will provide a safer signalised crossing.

Further information can be found in the 2 April 2024 Council agenda (page 19).

Council is seeking your feedback on both the proposed closure of a portion of Fidler Lane and the potential closure of the Fidler Lane rail crossing.

You can provide feedback via email to council@mountbarker.sa.gov.au with Proposed Road Closure Fidler Lane in the subject line or post to Mount Barker District Council, PO Box 54, Mount Barker SA 5251. All submissions must be received in writing by Council by 5pm Thursday 9 May 2024.
