The proposed civic and community hub provides many opportunities for our community to work, play and engage in the City Centre.

To make the Town Square vibrant, interesting and safe it needs to be surrounded by other things happening that complement it. We want this to be a space that is busy in the day and the evening. More people around means greater safety. We want it to be open, bright and welcoming. The surrounding shops, cafes, and hotel means that there will be people spending time in and near the Town Square in evenings and on weekends, when many of our other public spaces can be less busy.

This is also why we’re considering that a civic and community hub might go well next to the Town Square, acting as an extension to the outdoor space.

We have listened to feedback from the community about community and civic facilities in the City Centre and will consult further with the community soon on what this space might look like, and how it can be activated.
