The program celebrated significant success, delivering results that commit to diversity and inclusion within the community through a series of events.
Everybody Moves Disco at the Lost Dogs Disco (March 2023) saw the collaboration with Adelaide Hills’ disability providers and attracted over 200 participants from diverse segments of the disability community. This event combined entertainment with social interaction.
Speed Friending Event (June 2023) had over 40 participants and successfully fostered new connections and friendships within the disability community.
Disability Reference Group Consultation – Stephen Street Upgrade The inclusion of a disability reference group in the Stephen Street upgrade consultation showcased the project's commitment to integrating the disability community's voices into urban planning, with feedback directly influencing inclusive infrastructure initiatives.
Disability Expo (July 2023) partnering with Mount Barker High School, Plan Partners, Special Olympics Australia, and Mount Barker Community Centre, the inaugural Mount Barker Disability Expo exceeded expectations, attracting over 300 attendees and featuring more than 40 exhibitors.
Positive feedback affirmed the event's success in providing valuable resources and opportunities for the disability community while promoting active lifestyles.
Cooking Cabinet with Minister Natalie Cook (9 November 2023) – In collaboration with Mount Barker High School, Mount Barker Community Centre, and supported by Alcohol and Drug Foundation), the Cooking Cabinet event focused on engaging the voices of youth living with disabilities through an informal cooking session with Minister for Human Services, Nat Cook.
The insights gathered from five participating students will contribute to the development of the Child and Youth Action Plan.
I CAN – Celebrating the International Day of People with Disability Event at Summit Recreation and Sport Park (December 2023). In collaboration with key partners including Mount Barker United Football Club, Walking Football, Mission Australia, and others partners, this celebration event attracted over 150 participants and featured a Q&A session with Paralympian medallist Sam von Einem.
The success of the program highlights the importance of collaboration between sectors and encouraged active lifestyles while celebrating the abilities within the disability community.
