Name our Playground Creatures at Keith Stephenson Park
Mt Barker District Council is inviting the community to participate in a competition to name the three creatures. The design team selected the creatures to be features in the play space because they are native to the area and likely inhabitants of the creek that runs through the park.
Winners of the competition will receive a package of local prizes and be invited to the official opening of the playground where the names will be announced.
The competition is open to all Mt Barker residents from 1 October and will run until 22 October. Suggestions can be submitted on a page dedicated to the competition on the council’s website.
Mt Barker Mayor, David Leach said that with construction scheduled to be completed in December, the timing couldn't be better for families and nature enthusiasts to become a part of this exciting project.
"This competition aims to continue the community involvement with this project and invites creativity while enhancing the sense of ownership of our newly built playground. We believe that by involving our residents, especially children, in this naming process, we can create a more welcoming and enjoyable space for families," Mayor Leach said.
Partially funded from an Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program grant, the fully fenced, accessible and inclusive playground will feature picnic structures, interactive elements, shaded areas, and water play facilities to ensure it becomes a much-loved hub of community activity.
"Our new playground is a highly anticipated bespoke upgrade to Keith Stephenson Park. We aim to foster active communities, and this is an excellent space for local children to engage with our outdoor amenities and connect with the stories of our local riparian creatures," Mayor Leach said.
